I gave my exams this year and I got a good result. I feel if you have planned for your future and if someone is interested in taking up engg. studies, preparing for IIT JEE and AIEEE, during the boards can be really helpful for both the boards and for the competitve exams. I prefer self-study, however test-series can be really helpful. I searched a lot for the test series and certain sites like a2zexam.com, proved really helpful.
