This is related to topic demerits of mendeleev's classification of elements class 10 . There are many limitations of mendeleev's classification but I have query about variable valency. Mendeleev had given separate group (transition series) which contains transitional elements like Fe,Pt,Ni,etc. But still there are many elements of variable valency spread across in the mendeleev's periodic table like Ag,Zn,Mn,etc. The question is that since mendeleev had given 8th group to transitional elements, them why he did not kept above mentioned elements in transition series. Can we consider it a demerit of mendeleev's periodic table or not. My point of view is that it should be. What do you think ?
